Abstract
Nickel-based alloys (Inconel 718) are widely used in the fields of space technology, rocket engines, nuclear reactors, petrochemicals, submarines, power plants and others. Due to its high mechanical properties, characterized by low thermal conductivity and other characteristics, the latter is a difficult material to machine. The main objective of this work is to study the effect of the cutting conditions such as the cutting speed (Vc), the feedrate (f), the depth of cut (ap) and the beak radius of the tool (r) on the vibrations of the tool in the tangential and radial direction (Vz and Vy). The machining was carried out by turning the refractory alloy (Inconel 718) with a coated metal carbide tool (GC1125) according to a Taguchi L27 experiment plan. The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to develop prediction mathematical models and to determine optimal cutting conditions using the Desirability Function (DF) in the purpose of minimizing the vibrations of the tool.
